How do I locate a spare part?
Let's first start with the goal of the Parts Locator, to enable a customer to quickly find a spare part using visual search for their specific machine.
I have a Model 1 and my serial number is M1-123456789. I need to find the part number for a bolt that is in Assembly 1.2.
A customer will know their specific their machine either by a serial number, a model name or number and the year the machine was manufactured or an order number for their machine.
In a traditional Ecommerce application, the customer uses categories and faceted search to narrow down the list of items that they can purchase. With the knowledge of a specific machine, the list of spare parts can be further reduced to only to only those available for the specific machine by knowing the BOM for the specific machine.
For the customer to perform a visual search, the customer must be presented with CAD assets that are either 2D drawings or 3D models that match their specific machine.
Finally, once the customer locates the desired spare part in the CAD asset, the customer needs to verify the part using 2D or 3D images of the spare part from different 2D viewpoints or through rotation of a 3D view of the part.
What data do I need to create the Asset Database?
Using the Partable Admin tool, upload, prepare the data, map the bom to the CAD data and publish to the Asset Database.
Product Data Sold
The Product Data Sold (pds) sometimes referred to as installed base has the mapping of a serial number to a machine model and the BOM for the machine model.
BOM
The BOM (bom) has the hierarchical structure that decomposes the machine into assemblies and the parts that comprise the assembly.
Product Data Master
The Product Data Master (pdm) has the list of parts that are contained in the BOM. Each part in the pdm indicates whether it is a sellable part (e.g. spare part).
2D Hotspot Drawing
The Hotspot Drawing is a 2D assembly drawing image with each part's location within the image.
3D Model
The 3D Model contains the hierarchal collection of 3D assembly models with the parts of the assembly.
Product Images
Product images are the set of one or more images that end user will see to verify the correct part selection.
